Hydrofoils or foils for short are small wings that lift the board out of the water when moving forwards.
The main parts of a hydrofoil or foil are the mastbase, mast, fuselage, wing and stabilizer. the mast connects to the board by a mast base. The fuselage is connected to the mast. The wing and stabilizer are connected to the fuselage. Shorter masts are easier to control and recommended for beginners. Longer masts will give you more clearance when foiling in waves and will allow more speed. There are a lot of different wings. Wingsize is normally the surface in square centimeters. Different shapes will give different handling characteristics. Some wings will give you a lot of lift from slow speeds and stability while other wings are designed for racing and the focus is on high speeds. Some brands have different stabilizers that match their wings.
